Ceremony to Commemorate the Day of Remembrance for Victims of All Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes, 23 August 2022
On Tuesday, 23 August 2022, Slovenia will commemorate the 14th European Day of Remembrance for Victims of All Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes. The ceremony, organised by the Study Centre for National Reconciliation (SCNR), the Military Vicariate of the Slovenian Armed Forces and the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Ljubljana, will take place at several locations in Ljubljana. At 17:00, the Director of the SCNR, dr. Tomaž Ivešić, will lay a wreath in front of the memorial plaque at the US Embassy. The SCNR delegation will then lay a wreath in front of the building at Beethoven Street No. 3, which contains some of the few preserved prison cells from the Communist era. This will be followed by a mourning ceremony at the Monument to the Victims of All Wars at Congress Square No. 2. There, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, will lay a wreath in front of the Monument to the Victims of All Wars.
At 18:30, a mass will be held at the Ljubljana Cathedral, conducted by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ljubljana, Stanislav Zore. It will be followed by a ceremonial event organised by the Military Vicariate of the Slovenian Armed Forces. The keynote speaker at the event will be dr. Aleš Maver, historian, Latinist and theologian, who is also active as a translator, columnist and political commentator.All events
