Presentation of the Book Kako je operirala UDBA? Operacija “Paromlin” i sudbina Vinka Markovića

On Tuesday, 9 April 2024, SCNR hosted a presentation of a book by Dr Josip Mihaljević (Croatian Institute of History) entitled Kako je operirala UDBA? Operacija “Paromlin” i sudbina Vinka Markovića (How Did UDBA Operate? Operation “Paromlin” and the Fate of Vinko Marković). The fate of Vinko Marković is an illustrative example explaining how Udba and, after 1966, the State Security Administration (SDB) worked. Vinko Marković was not a man that could be described as a Croatian nationalist. Through his case, a lot can be said about archival materials that were the subject of great efforts for almost three decades. The materials have been made accessible to researchers only recently. Operation “Paromlin” relates to an explosion in Paromlinska Ulica in Zagreb in September 1975, a failed assassination attempt on the president of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito. As an introduction, the attendees were greeted by the director of the Study Centre for National Reconciliation, Dr Tomaž Ivešić, and the director of the Croatian Institute of History, Dr Miroslav Akmadža.
